XHTML vs HTML
Date: 29/08/2006
HTML is rapidly becoming replaced by its standardised cousin XHTML. The differences between the two languages are very small but the benefits of switching is definitely worth the effort. The main benefit is that XHTML is far more flexible and can be read by many more devices than simply a standard computer, like mobile phones, palmtop devices and other scaled down internet browsers. In the industry this flexibility between formats is known as portability.
As the abbreviation would suggest, XHTML is also extensible; a fancy way of saying that new tags can be added without an update document type declaration.
