Semantic Web Design Importance
Date: 18/03/2007
The definition of "semantic" is "the meaning of"; the representation of something.
Semantic web design is the structuring of markup documents, whether they be XML or XHTML, so that the meaning or context of the content is recognisable to computer systems, such as browsers and search engine spiders.

These are all examples of content that can be understood by human beings but not computers systems. How can we overcome this hurdle? With semantic structuring.
Content is held within 'tags'. These tags are built upon syntax rules. For example, the <p> tag represents paragraph text content. Whereas an address could be held within a paragraph tag <p> quite easily, it would be much better enclosed within an address tag; <address>. This means that not only can humans read the address, but computers also recognise the content as an address too. This is semantic web design.
EyePlot Digital are one of the few providers who offer semantically correct web design services in Huddersfield and Yorkshire. If you would like more advice about web design, or the topic of this article, then feel free to call us on 0870 99 05 188, or take a look at our page on web design.
