It is not uncommon to find business owners slogging away nearly 16 hours a day, yet failing to make any tangible profit. If the effort you put in for your business is misguided, you will naturally not get the desired profit. It is, therefore, necessary to concentrate one's efforts in the right direction. A few helpful tips are given below.

.Businesses survive on sales. No business can run successfully if there is inadequate ongoing concerted marketing effort. Efforts should be focused on making marketing plans which should include advertising, making new contacts and spreading the business information by word of mouth.
.Never be embarrassed or afraid of asking for a sale. You need to run your business profitably and for that you need sales. So, why should you bother about what others think?
.No single person can do everything connected with the business in the best possible way. As such, the business owner should recognize his shortcomings and employ outside help in areas where he is deficient and himself concentrate on his strong points.
.Regular concerted efforts should be made to keep existing customer base happy and satisfied instead of chasing after new customers. Innovative incentive schemes can help you in this regard.
.As they say, a penny saved is a penny made. So, control over your expenses while reviewing the same regularly so that you can minimize the non-essential ones.
.Attractive and glossy marketing materials might appear attractive but they cost a lot of money. Marketing emphasis should be more on talking to others about your business instead of the expensive brochures and business cards.
.Segregating the operations of the business into low-return and high-return activities will be very helpful. You should offload the low-return activities on someone else at a low hourly rate and concentrate yourself on the high-return activities.
.You should not feel embarrassed in asking for the correct rate for your products or services. Accepting low rates will leave you exhausted and without any profit. Similarly, do not hesitate to ask for upward revision of rates for your services.
.It's essential to be aware of the latest technological developments in the field of tools that can save time and effort. Employing such tools will boost your productivity and profit.
.You should attend seminars and conferences in order to get new ideas and to know new ways of doing things in business.
